Jeanette Cudney (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia) finished 18th to lead the Le Moyne College women's cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship on Sunday morning at Saint Michael's College. Classmate
Sean Beney (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) led the men's team to an 11th-place finish.
Stonehill College won its seventh consecutive conference championship on the women's side and its 14th in the last 16 years with 23 total points after having five of the top eight runners. Bentley University, which finishe seventh last year, registered 116 points to place second. Assumption College placed third for the second straight year with 136 points, while American International College was one spot back with 140 points. Merrimack College rounded out the top five with 143 points. The Dolphins recorded 221 points to improve one place from the last two years' finish. Stonehill's Nicole Borofski snapped American International's run of five straight individual conference champions by registering a time of 21:48.8.
On the men's side, American International College won its second straight conference championship with 48 points after having the top two finishers and five of the top 23 runners. Stonehill College finished in second place for the second straight year with 72 points after five Skyhawks placed in the top 22. Franklin Pierce University tallied 81 points to place third for the second consecutive year, while Southern New Hampshire University placed fourth with 110 points. Bentley University recorded 115 points to round out the top five teams. The Dolphins registered 318 points to move up one spot in the standings from the last two years. John Chirchir from American International won his first individual conference championship with a time of 24:55.9 to give the Yellow Jackets their seventh consecutive individual champion.
By virtue of its seventh-place finish, Le Moyne claims the women's cross country point in the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the Dolphins and The College of Saint Rose. The Golden Knights earned the men's point after placing ninth. Through seven of the 16 sports, the Dolphins hold a 4-3 lead over the Golden Knights.
Cudney recorded Northeast-10 Conference Third Team All-Conference accolades for the second straight year after navigating the six-kilometer course in 23:27.8 as the second sophomore to finish. Freshman
Brittney Mack (Poestenkill, N.Y./Averill Park) turned in a time of 24:11.4 to place 31st, while classmate
Rachael Miller (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) placed 58th in a season-best 25:10.9. Junior
Elena Doctor (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca East) moved up seven spots from last year to place 66th with a season-best time of 25:29.4, while sophomore
Katherine Markstein (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) crossed the finish line in 25:31.0 to place 68th, an improvement of four spots from last year.
In the men's race, Beney covered the eight-kilometer course in 26:12.2 to place 25th among the 156 competitors and an improvement of 46 places from last year. Classmate
Brody Witaszek (Ghent, N.Y./Chatham) improved by 16 places from last year with a time of 27:49.9 to finish 76th, while freshman
Griffin Klein (Fair Haven, N.Y./Red Creek) registered a time of 28:28.3 to place 97th. Senior
Derek Clar (Scottsville, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) finished 100th in 28:35.3, while classmate
Dominik Maida (Hallstead, Pa./Seton Catholic (N.Y.)) was one spot back in 28:36.2.
Le Moyne closes out the season on Sunday, November 8 at the NCAA East Regional at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Concord, New Hampshire.
