Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior midfielder
Rachel Terry (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) scored a goal and had an assist to lead the Le Moyne College women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.
After taking three of the game's first four shots, the Dolphins got on the scoreboard on their fourth attempt. Off a pass from the left side by sophomore back
Alexis Kline (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool), Terry registered her fourth goal of the year at the 28:08 mark with a shot from 19 yards out off the top left corner of the penalty box.
The Dolphins, who defeated the Ravens for just the third time in 22 all-time meetings and for the first time at home since a 3-0 triumph on October 24, 1987 (snapping a stretch of 10 straight home losses), doubled their lead midway through the second half after Terry had a shot pushed wide by the goalkeeper. On the ensuing corner kick, sophomore midfielder
Samantha Ciulla (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder/Duquesne) served the ball into the middle of the penalty box, where it was drilled into the back of the net at the 63:30 mark by senior midfielder
Kelly Ristoff (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Siena) for her ninth goal of the season. With the nine goals, which rank second in the Northeast-10 Conference this season, Ristoff becomes the seventh player in the program's history to tally at least nine goals in back-to-back seasons. Additionally, the goal gives her 51 points in her career, making her the 12th player in the program's history to reach the half-century mark. She also moves into sole possession of eighth on the career goals chart with 24.
Le Moyne extended its lead to 3-0 at the 83:30 mark by scoring off a corner kick for the seventh time this season. From the left corner, Ciulla lofted the ball into the penalty box, where it was redirected by Terry. On the ball's descent, sophomore forward
Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) headed the ball under the crossbar from one yard out before the goalkeeper could corral the ball.
Franklin Pierce spoiled Le Moyne's bid for its first shutout of the season by converting a corner kick of its own with 3:49 remaining. From the left corner, Nathalia Maria da Silva served the ball in front of the net. Off a scramble for the ball, Yasmin Civin picked up her second goal of the season by knocking the ball into the back of the net.
Senior goalkeeper
Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) made one save in the first half to earn her third win in four games and the 19th of her career, which moves her into sole possession of third on the program's career wins list. Casey Cook recorded four saves, including three in the first half, in the setback. Le Moyne doubled up the Ravens in shots, 12-6, while Franklin Pierce posted a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (4-11-1, 3-9-1 NE-10), which tallied wins in each of its last two home games, closes out the season on Saturday at Stonehill College at 12:00 p.m.
