Liverpool, N.Y. – Charles Farres recorded two wins to lead Roberts Wesleyan College to a 6-3 win over the Le Moyne College men's tennis team on Friday night at Gold's Gym.
In doubles action, sophomores
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) picked up Le Moyne's first point of the match by defeating Jacob Paul and Robert Beer, 8-4, at the top spot. Farres teamed with Emanuel Rauchle to knock off freshmen
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) at second doubles, 9-8 (9-7). Gui Plentz de Liz and Rene Torti posted an 8-5 win at third doubles over redshirt junior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.) and sophomore
Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt/Geneseo).
Spoor remained undefeated in dual matches by defeating Rauchle at fourth singles, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 for his sixth win of the year. Legris improved to 5-1 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Plentz de Liz at the fifth spot. Farres and Gayvert split the first two sets (3-6, 6-4) before Gayvert was forced to retire midway through the third set. Paul was a winner in straight sets at second singles over Barton, 6-3, 6-2, while Beer rallied for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win at third singles over Doney. Dustin Eshleman closed out the match with an 8-3 victory over Procopio at the sixth spot.
Le Moyne (4-2) returns to action on Saturday, February 28 against Edinboro University at 3:00 p.m. at Gold's Gym in Liverpool.
