SEVENTH-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE CRUISES TO 20-6 VICTORY OVER ASSUMPTION IN NORTHEAST-10 OPENER

Worcester, Mass. – Sophomore midfielder Brian Rogers (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) registered seven points to lead the seventh-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 20-6 victory over Assumption College on Saturday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams at the Multi-Sport Stadium.


The Dolphins netted the game's first four goals over the opening 15:38. Senior midfielder Joe Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) started the scoring with an unassisted goal 1:17 into the game. Rogers tallied his first goal of the day just over five minutes later. Senior attackman Chris Breiner (Troy, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling) closed out the scoring in the first quarter with an unassisted marker with 1:00 left. Corapi put the Dolphins up 4-0 with an extra-man goal off a pass from Breiner 38 seconds into the second quarter.

Assumption scored back-to-back goals to cut its deficit in half. Peter Gersbeck got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at the 13:05 mark, while John Greco scored with 10:44 left.

Le Moyne scored three times around a goal by the Greyhounds to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. Rogers scored Le Moyne's fifth goal with 7:41 left, while senior attackman Kevin Kelly (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) finished off a feed from Breiner with 4:43 to go. After Connor Munisteri posted an unassisted goal with 3:49 left, Rogers netted an unassisted tally with 2:51 remaining.

The Dolphins blew the game open with six goals over the first 4:46 of the third quarter. Rogers scored the first two goals in a span of 1:53. Kelly followed with another goal off a pass from Breiner with 11:32 left. Just 15 seconds later, junior attackman Logan Thomas (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) recorded an extra-man goal off a pass from sophomore attackman Alex O'Brien (). Thomas found the back of the net again 50 seconds later. Off the ensuing faceoff, senior long-stick midfielder Nick Hourigan (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) scooped up the ball and found Kelly for his 10th goal of the season.

The Greyhounds scored twice within 10 seconds to get within 13-5 with 9:00 left. Ty Martina scored with 9:10 left off a pass from Paul Curran, while Nick Guarino won the ensuing faceoff and raced up field to net his first goal of the year.

Le Moyne scored four times over the last 6:54 of the quarter. Kelly started the push after taking a pass from Rogers. In an extra-man opportunity, O'Brien tallied his sixth goal in two career games against the Greyhounds. Rogers recorded his seventh point of the contest by feeding Corapi with 48 seconds left. Thomas found the back of the net with one second left off a pass from redshirt senior midfielder Brett Axelson (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/Merrimack).

Garrett Smith got the Greyhounds within 17-6 5:08 into the fourth quarter off a pass from Conor Darby.

Thomas started a 3-0 spurt by the Dolphins over the last 8:34 to finish the game's scoring. Junior attackman Pat Nowak (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) scored an extra-man goal with 5:23 left off a pass from O'Brien, who ended the scoring with an extra-man goal with 58 seconds left.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Krawec (Kirkville, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa/Onondaga C.C.), the reigning Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Week, registered 13 saves to earn his third victory. Will Contento made nine saves in the loss for the Greyhounds.

Le Moyne (3-1, 1-0 NE-10), which defeated the Greyhounds in its NE-10 opener for the second straight year, plays its first Northeast-10 Conference home game against Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.
