DeWitt, N.Y. – Sophomores
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) each won in singles action and teamed for a doubles victory to lead the Le Moyne College men's tennis team to a 6-3 win over Saint Michael's College on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Gold's Gym.
Gayvert and Spoor registered Le Moyne's only point in doubles action with an 8-3 victory over Billy Wood and Ben Lambert at the top doubles spot. At the second spot, Charlie Merry and Sam Laves recorded an 8-6 win over freshman
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) and redshirt junior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.). Hayden Steward and Tyler Lucey posted an 8-3 win at third doubles over sophomores
Steven Procopio (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and
Adam Celata (Hamilton, Mass./Hamilton-Wenham Regional).
The Dolphins rallied from the 2-1 deficit by winning five of the six singles matches. At the top spot, Gayvert earned his 10th dual match victory of the season by topping Wood, 6-0, 6-1. Doney won at second singles over Merry, 6-0, 6-2, while Spoor was a 6-1, 6-2 victor over Laves at the third spot. Legris clinched the match for the Dolphins with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Patrick Dietz at fourth singles, while Procopio recorded consecutive scores of 6-2 to beat Lambert at the fifth spot. Steward picked up the Purple Knights' third point with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Celata at sixth singles.
Le Moyne (7-7, 5-3 NE-10) returns to action against New York Institute of Technology on Friday, April 10 at 2:00 p.m. the Skytop Tennis Courts.
