TOP-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE ADVANCES TO 15TH NE-10 CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WITH 12-8 WIN OVER FRANKLIN PIERCE

Syracuse, N.Y. – Four players each scored two goals to lead the top-ranked and top-seeded Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 12-8 win over fourth-seeded Franklin Pierce University on Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins, who have captured an NE-10-best 11 conference championships, advance to their 15th conference title game on Sunday against third-seeded Adelphi University at 1:00 p.m. at Ted Grant Field. The Dolphins defeated the Panthers in the regular season, 14-10, on April 11 in Garden City.

Franklin Pierce, which won its first-ever NE-Championships game on Tuesday, 9-5, against Assumption, scored the game's first two goals. Erik Kelly got the Ravens on the scoreboard 72 seconds into the game with his 16th goal of the year off a pass from Brenden Caldeira. Following eight scoreless minutes of play, Casey Burnett slipped his 35th goal into the back of the net.

The Dolphins broke through with their first goal of the game with just 1.4 seconds left in the first quarter as redshirt senior midfielder Brett Axelson (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/Merrimack) tallied his second goal of the year after taking a pass from junior attackman Logan Thomas (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool/Onondaga C.C.).

Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year Joe Corapi (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) evened the score at two apiece with 7:55 left in the second quarter with his 38th goal of the campaign.

The Ravens regained the lead 54 seconds later on Ben Lassow's fifth goal of the season.

Le Moyne responded five goals over the last six and one-half minutes of the quarter to take a 7-3 lead into the intermission. Graduate student midfielder Matt Taylor (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Cornell) started the outburst with an unassisted tally at the 6:29 mark. Sophomore midfielder/attackman Alex O'Brien (Hanson, Mass./Boston College High) gave the Dolphins the lead with 5:02 left with his 12th goal of the year from the left edge of the crease after coming from behind the net. Less than one minute later, senior attackman Kevin Kelly (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) finished off a feed from Corapi in an extra-man situation for his 34th marker of the season. Junior defensive midfielder/faceoff specialist Nick Kline (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) won the ensuing faceoff, raced up field and fired his seventh goal of the year into the back of the net. Kelly completed the scoring in half with a back-handed shot going away from the right edge of the crease with 0.7 seconds left off a feed from senior attackman Chris Breiner (Troy, N.Y./Trinity-Pawling).

Taylor extended the lead to 8-3 with 12:43 left in the third with a spinning shot from the left side for his 28th goal of the campaign.

The Ravens, who scored 10 total goals in the previous six meetings in Syracuse, scored the next two goals to get back within three. Sean Delea registered his 17th goal with 11:45 left, while Dylan Leone netted his second goal of the campaign with 9:50 left off an across-the-crease pass by Burnett.

Breiner pushed the margin back to four with an unassisted tally 40 seconds later.

The teams traded goals in the fourth quarter with Le Moyne's lead bouncing between three and five goals. Kevin Dargin made the score 9-6 with his 12th goal of the year with 12:05 left off a pass from Eddie Noonan, a second team all-conference selection who was held to just that one point in two games against the Dolphins this season (58 points on 40 goals and 18 assists in the other 14 games).

Le Moyne scored twice in 58 seconds to take an 11-6 lead. Thomas registered his 19th goal of season from the right edge of the crease with 5:53 remaining after taking a feed from freshman midfielder Bailey Wilkinson (Black River, N.Y./Carthage), who made his return to the field after missing the previous 11 games. O'Brien scored from the right side with 4:55 left to give the Dolphins a five-goal advantage.

Franklin Pierce countered 42 seconds later as Caldeira posted his 11th goal of the year. Only 26 seconds later, Cody MacLellan netted his sixth goal of the season off a pass from Jack Carney.

Corapi finished off the game's scoring with his team-best 39th goal of the year with 2:41 to play.

Senior goalkeeper Alex Krawec (Kirkville, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa/Onondaga C.C.), the Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Year, registered 13 saves between the pipes, including five in the third quarter, to record his 14th victory of the season. Don Denman turned away 12 shots, including the first five he faced, in suffering just his fourth loss of the year.
