SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE USES LATE GOALS TO DEFEAT MEN’S SOCCER, 2-0

New Haven, Conn. – Chae Brangman and Louis Greenway-Tambini scored two minutes apart late in the second half to give Southern Connecticut State University a 2-0 win over the Le Moyne College men's soccer team in each team's Northeast-10 Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.

In the scoreless first half, the Owls registered a 5-2 advantage in shots, including one shot on target.

Following four unanswered shots over the opening 26 and one-half minutes of the second half, including two more on goal, Southern Connecticut State netted the only goal they would need. After collecting the ball, goalkeeper Noah Varonier kicked the ball upfield, Brangman raced to it and ripped a shot from the right side of the penalty box inside the far left post with 26:59 remaining.

The Owls added an insurance goal 2:21 later. After Tyler Naef had his shot saved, Greenway-Tambini knocked the rebound into the net from inside the penalty box for his second goal of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) made five saves in the loss for the Dolphins. Varonier was not forced to make a save to earn the win for the Owls. Southern Connecticut recorded a 13-4 advantage in shots and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. The four shots are the fewest by the Dolphins since posting four in a 1-0 win over New York Tech on September 9, 2012 and the zero shots on goal is the first time with less than two since recording one in a 3-0 loss against Southern New Hampshire on October 30, 2013.

Le Moyne (2-1, 0-1 NE-10), which lost its NE-10 opener for the third time in four years, returns to non-conference action on Wednesday hosting Roberts Wesleyan College at 3:00 p.m.
