WOMEN’S SOCCER DROPS HOME OPENER TO MERCY, 1-0

Syracuse, N.Y. – Lauren Calderaro netted the game's only goal with 11:20 remaining to give Mercy College a 1-0 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Ted Grant Field.

The scoreless first half featured just five total shots, four of which were taken by Mercy. Senior goalkeeper Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) was forced to turn away three of the shots to keep the Mavericks off the scoreboard.

After taking just the one shot in the first half, the Dolphins got off three shots in the first 17:13 of the second stanza, but all three were sent wide right.

The first quality scoring chance of the game came with just under 20 minutes remaining, but Corsaro was able to snare a blast by Jessica DeLeon.

The Mavericks, who advanced to the East Region finals last year, took advantage of a corner kick to net the only goal they would need. After DeLeon took the corner kick and Kendall Wright had a shot blocked, DeLeon regained possession of the ball near the right endline. She served the ball towards the top right corner of the goal box, where Calderaro was able to redirect the ball inside the far left post for her second goal of the season.

Le Moyne was able to get off two shots in the final 10 minutes of the contest, but neither were a threat to go in the goal.

Corsaro finished the game with five saves in suffering her second straight setback. Nicole Augustine, who registered 11 shutouts last season in going 17-3-1 between the pipes, picked up her 21st career clean slate without needing to make a save. Mercy registered a 10-6 advantage in shots and took nine of the game's 12 corner kicks.

Le Moyne (1-3) returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday against Merrimack College at Ted Grant Field at 11:00 a.m.
