MEN’S SOCCER TOPS ADELPHI, 1-0, AS FILTCH NETS SECOND STRAIGHT GAME-WINNER

Syracuse, N.Y. – Redshirt senior midfielder Cal Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) scored with just 37 seconds left in the second overtime period to give the Le Moyne College men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Adelphi University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

In the scoreless first half, Adelphi recorded a 6-2 advantage in shots. The Panthers put four of their shots on goal, but sophomore goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) was able to turn each aside, including a header by Alejandro Penzini that Beaury caught at the left post midway through the stanza.

The Panthers registered another 6-2 advantage in shots in the second half, including a 3-1 edge in shots on goal.

Following a scoreless first overtime period, in which Adelphi took all five shots, the Dolphins tallied all three of the shots in the second overtime period. Le Moyne registered the game-winner following a corner kick in the final minute of play. Sophomore forward Jacob Borssen (Stockholm, Sweden/Solna Gymnasium) sent the ball from the left corner towards the far post, where junior back Ryan Matthews (Dublin, Ireland/Dublin Institute of Technology) was able to head the ball towards the net. Adelphi goalkeeper Sergio Reyes was able to stop the attempt, but could not corral it, which allowed Filtch to blast the rebound into the back of the net for his second straight game-winning goal.

Beaury finished the game with a career-best eight saves to earn his 16th career victory and 11th career shutout between the pipes. Reyes tallied two saves in the loss for the Panthers. Adelphi registered a 17-7 advantage in shots, while the Dolphins held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (4-1, 1-1 NE-10), which has won each of the three regular-season meetings with the Panthers by one goal since Adelphi joined the NE-10 in 2013, returns to action on Wednesday at The College of Saint Rose at 7:00 p.m. The game will be the fourth contest in this year's "Upstate Challenge", which Le Moyne currently leads 1-0.
