WOMEN’S SOCCER EDGED BY NINTH-RANKED SAINT ROSE, 1-0

Albany, N.Y. – Amanda Vasquez scored late in the first half to give ninth-ranked The College of Saint Rose a 1-0 victory over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday evening at Sullivan Field.

With the victory, Saint Rose evens the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the two institutions at one point apiece.

The Golden Knights controlled play throughout the first half and forced senior goalkeeper Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) to make four saves over the first 35 minutes of the game, while also putting a strike off the crossbar.

Vasquez netted the only goal the Golden Knights would need at the 37:04 mark. Off a cross from the right side by Gianna Smith, Vasquez knocked in her second goal of the season.

Saint Rose registered a 16-4 advantage in shots, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal, in the second half, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.

Corsaro recorded a season-high nine saves in the setback to keep the Dolphins within striking distance. Madison Taylor turned away five shots to post her third shutout of the season. The Golden Knights finished the game with a 28-8 advantage in shots and took nine of the game's 11 corner kicks.

Le Moyne (1-5, 0-3 NE-10), which has dropped its first three conference games for the first time since the 2003 campaign, looks for its first NE-10 win on Saturday at Saint Anselm College at 11:00 p.m.
