Manchester, N.H. – Callie Millet scored just under three minutes into the second half to give Saint Anselm College a 2-1 victory over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Melucci Field.
Following 20 minutes of scoreless action to start the game, during which each team put one shot on target, the teams traded goals in a span of 48 seconds. Saint Anselm started the scoring at the 20:22 mark as Rachel Gillies scored off a free kick from just outside the penalty box that skipped in front of the goalkeeper and over her left hand.
The Dolphins answered back at the 21:10 mark as sophomore forward
Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) sent a pass through the penalty box to sophomore midfielder
Alexis Muraco (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Syracuse), who put a shot from the left corner of the penalty box into the right corner of the goal for her first tally as a Dolphin.
Neither team was able to put another shot on goal the remainder of the first half, leading to a 1-1 tie at the intermission.
The Hawks netted the game-winning goal just 2:47 into the second stanza. Off a loose ball at the top of the penalty box, Millet slipped a shot inside the right post for her first goal of the season.
After putting two shots over the crossbar in the 49th and 50th minutes, the Dolphins were unable to get off another shot in a bid to tie the game again.
Senior goalkeeper
Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) posted five saves, including four in the second half, to keep the Dolphins within striking distance. Cassie Quattropani earned the win between the pipes for the Hawks after making one save. Saint Anselm recorded a 21-5 advantage in shots, while posting a 7-5 edge in corner kicks, including 5-1 in the second half.
Le Moyne (1-6, 0-4 NE-10) returns home to face American International College on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
