Syracuse, N.Y. – Alyssa Werbicki scored early in the contest to lead American International College to a 1-0 victory over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.
After each team recorded a shot in the opening seven minutes of the game, the Yellow Jackets scored the only goal they would need. After receiving a through ball from Johanna Nilsson, fired a shot from 15 yards out, but it was knocked away by senior goalkeeper
Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool). Werbicki then collected the rebound six yards from the left post and deposited the ball into the open net at the 13:34 mark for her Northeast-10 Conference-leading fifth goal of the season.
Following a bevy of substitutions midway through the half, the Dolphins increased their offensive attack, registering four shots in a span of four minutes, including two on target, one of which was saved off the crossbar, but could not net the equalizer.
Le Moyne tallied three shots in the opening 2:45 of the second half, one of which needed to be saved by American International goalkeeper Rachel Edgin, but were unable to register a shot the remainder of the contest.
American International tallied the final six shots of the game, including two that had a chance to extend the lead, but Corsaro was able to snare both out of the air.
Corsaro finished the game with five saves to maintain her conference lead in total saves. Edgin, a native of Whitesboro who spent her first four collegiate years at conference-foe Assumption, turned away three shots for her third shutout of the season. The Yellow Jackets registered a 10-8 edge in shots, while posting a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (1-7, 0-5 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday against Southern New Hampshire University at 12:00 p.m.
