WOMEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO ADELPHI, 6-3

DeWitt, N.Y. – Freshman Tiffany Dun (Templestowe, Victoria/Doncaster Secondary College) was a double winner, but the Le Moyne College women's tennis team was topped by Adelphi University, 6-3, on Monday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Gold's Gym.

Adelphi jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the match following the doubles competition. Dun and sophomore Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/Collège Saint-Maurice) earned Le Moyne's first win of the day by registering an 8-0 victory at the first position over Stefani Lineva and Karen Serina. At the second spot, Elizabeth Kallenberg and Samantha Perri improved to 7-0 as a tandem by squeezing out a 9-7 win over sophomore Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu/Kendriya Vidyalaya) and junior Christina Perry (Endwell, N.Y./Seton Catholic). Rebecca Fakas and Elena Nastasi improved to 6-1 on the season with an 8-1 win at third doubles over senior Allison Jones (Utica, N.Y./Notre Dame) and sophomore Autumn Hogan (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas Institute).

At the top singles position, Dun picked up her fourth win of the season, 7-5, 6-0, over Lineva, who was the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year last year after going 11-1 in conference action. Vajjiravelu remained undefeated in 2015 with her seventh straight win to start the season following a 3-0 Spring season after Serina retired from the match trailing 6-2, 3-0.

In the closest match of the afternoon, Kallenberg rallied from a deficit in each set to hand Benoit-Limosani just her second loss of the season, 7-5, 7-5. Fakas, a first team all-conference selection last year, picked up her seventh straight win to start the season after posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory at fourth singles over Perry. At fifth singles, Perri was a 6-0, 6-3 winner against Jones to clinch the match for the Panthers, while Nastasi registered an 8-4 win over Hogan at the sixth spot.

Le Moyne (6-3, 5-3 NE-10) continues its homestand on Saturday against Stonehill College at 1:00 p.m. at the Skytop Tennis Courts.
