Lock Haven, Pa. – Senior back
Jack Ball (Sunbury, Middlesex/Bishop Wand/Bryant & Stratton) scored in the 85th minute to give the Le Moyne College men's soccer team a season-opening 1-0 victory over Lock Haven University on Thursday afternoon at Foundation Field.
In the scoreless first half, which included a 45-minute lightning delay with just over four minutes remaining, the Bald Eagles registered a 6-3 advantage in shots. Lock Haven was able to put four of its six shots on goal, but sophomore goalkeeper
Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) was able to turn each away, while the Dolphins were unable to put any of their three shots on net.
Le Moyne increased its offensive pressure in the second half, recording three shots on goal over the first 26 minutes.
The Dolphins broke through with the game's only marker at the 84:30 mark. Off a throw-in by sophomore midfielder
Adam Resetarits (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), Ball headed the ball from the top of the goal box inside the far post for his first goal as a Dolphin.
Le Moyne was able to hold the Bald Eagles without a shot over the final five minutes to preserve the shutout.
Beaury, who registered a Le Moyne freshman-record eight shutouts en route to earning Northeast-10 Conference All-Conference Third Team and All-Rookie Team honors, finished the game with five saves for his ninth career clean slate. Jonathan Howitt posted three saves in the loss for the Bald Eagles. The Dolphins finished the contest with a 10-8 advantage in shots, while the Bald Eagles recorded a 9-8 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (1-0), which opened the season on the road for the first time since the 2009 campaign, opens its home schedule on Saturday against Mercy College at 12:00 p.m.
