MEN’S SOCCER WINS HOME OPENER, 2-0, OVER MERCY

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior back Mark Gentile (Walworth, N.Y./Wayne) headed in a corner kick to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Mercy College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

After being outshot 5-1 over the opening 32 minutes of the contest, the Dolphins struck for the only goal they would need. On his seventh corner kick of the first half, redshirt senior midfielder Cal Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) served the ball from the right corner to the top right corner of the goal box, where Gentile was able to get his head on the ball and flick it into the middle of the net for the first goal of his 47-game career.

Following almost 39 minutes of scoreless action to start the second half, during which time the Dolphins held a 6-3 edge in shots, Le Moyne doubled its lead. Off a pass from the center of the field by sophomore forward Jacob Borssen (Stockholm, Sweden/Solna Gymnasium), sophomore midfielder Adam Resetarits (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) blasted a shot from the upper right corner of the penalty box into the lower left side of the goal for his fourth career tally.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) registered four saves, including three in the second half, to post his second consecutive shutout and the 10th of his career. With the shutout, Beaury becomes the first goalkeeper in the program's history to record 10 shutouts within his first 20 career starts. Julio Sanchez tallied three saves in the loss for the Mavericks. Le Moyne registered a 10-9 edge in shots, while posting a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (2-0), which has shut out nine straight non-conference opponents since a 3-1 season-opening loss to Nyack in 2013 (outscoring the nine opponents 23-0), opens Northeast-10 Conference action next Saturday at Southern Connecticut State University at 1:00 p.m.
