WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS IN SEASON OPENER, 5-1, AT ROBERTS WESLEYAN

Rochester, N.Y. – Brittany Houghton scored twice off the bench to lead Roberts Wesleyan College to a 5-1 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in the season opener for both teams on Thursday afternoon.

The Redhawks got on the scoreboard first just under 16 minutes into the contest. Bella Mitrevski sent a pass to Orla Martin, who slotted the ball into the back of the net at the 15:52 mark. Mitrevski picked up her second assist of the stanza 11 and one-half minutes later as Houghton tallied the eventual game-winning goal.

Houghton gave her team a 3-0 advantage 4:35 into the second half with an unassisted marker. Jodi Kester netted her first goal of the campaign with 25:12 left in the game off a pass from Courtney Hartnett, while Ronja Rimsler completed her team's scoring by finishing off a pass from Vicki Crocker with 17:41 to play.

The Dolphins broke through with just under four minutes remaining in the contest. Off a corner kick by junior midfielder Rachel Terry (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal), junior forward Rachel Prentice (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) tallied her first career goal.

Senior goalkeeper Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) made five saves (against four goals) over 69:47 between the pipes in the setback. Mary Kate Eckert turned away all seven shots she faced in 68:54 to earn the win for the Redhawks. Le Moyne registered an 18-16 advantage in shots, while taking four of the game's five corner kicks.

Le Moyne (0-1), which suffered its third straight season-opening loss to the Redhawks, returns to action on Monday at Daemen College at 3:00 p.m.
