Amherst, N.Y. – Junior midfielder
Rachel Terry (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) scored with just over five minutes remaining to give the Le Moyne College women's soccer team a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Daemen College on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at Dimp Wagner Stadium.
The Wildcats got on the scoreboard first following a Le Moyne foul in the penalty box just 6:31 into the game. Rose Carboni stepped up to take the penalty kick and knocked the shot into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.
Le Moyne registered a 6-3 advantage in shots over the remainder of the first half, but was unable to put any of its four shots on goal into the back of the net.
After each team took three shots over the opening 29 minutes of the second half, the Dolphins evened the score at one apiece. Off a corner kick by sophomore midfielder
Samantha Ciulla (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder/Duquesne), senior midfielder
Kelly Ristoff (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Siena) was able to head the ball from the middle of the goal box into the net at the 74:32 mark for her 16th goal as a Dolphin.
In the ensuing 51 seconds, the Wildcats put two shots on goal, but senior goalkeeper
Tori Corsaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) was able to stop both attempts.
Just seconds after another corner kick by Ciulla, Terry ripped a shot inside the far post with 5:03 remaining for her 15th career goal.
Stephanie Zurales had a header shot with 1:37 left in an attempt to tie the score, but sent the shot wide.
Corsaro finished the game with six saves, including three in each half, to record her 16th career win between the pipes, the fourth-most in the program's history. With her six saves, she ties Kathy McEneny for the eighth-most saves in a career with 216. Meaghan O'Leary tallied eight saves, including five in the first half, in the loss for the Wildcats. Le Moyne posted a 17-13 edge in shots, while holding a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (1-1), which defeated the Wildcats, 1-0, in Amherst last year on a double-overtime goal by Ristoff, completes its season-opening three-game road trip on Saturday with its Northeast-10 Conference-opener at the University of New Haven at 1:00 p.m.
