Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/Collège Saint-Maurice) and junior
Christina Perry (Endwell, N.Y./Seton Catholic) won in singles action and teamed for a doubles victory to lead the Le Moyne College women's tennis team to a season-opening 7-2 win over The College of Saint Rose on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Kelton Courts at Myers Middle School.
With the victory, Le Moyne takes a 1-0 lead over the Golden Knights in the year-long "Upstate Challenge" between the two institutions.
The Dolphins jumped out to a 2-1 lead following doubles play. Benoit-Limosani and Perry combined at the second spot to defeat Paige Southwick and KeriAnn Mahoney by a score of 8-0. Senior
Allison Jones (Utica, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) and sophomore
Autumn Hogan (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas institute) teamed to record an 8-1 victory at the third spot over Alanna Bergmann Maria Malafronte. Saint Rose earned its point at the top spot as Averie Bowen and Isabella Cubillos recorded an 8-4 win over freshman
Tiffany Dun (Templestowe, Victoria/Doncaster Secondary College) and sophomore
Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu/Kendriya Vidyalaya).
In singles action, Benoit-Limosani defeated Southwick in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, at the third spot, while Perry was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Mahoney at number four singles. Jones and Hogan were also double-winners as Jones registered a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Bergmann at fifth singles, while Hogan recorded a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth singles over Malafronte. Vajjiravelu earned the win at second singles over Cubillos, 6-2, 6-1. Bowen picked up Saint Rose's second point with a 4-6, 7-6, 10-8 win over Dun at first singles.
Le Moyne (1-0, 1-0 NE-10), which has claimed the tennis point in the "Upstate Challenge" in each of the five years of the rivalry series, returns to action on Saturday at Saint Michael's College at 1:00 p.m.
