MEN’S AND WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS SWEEP CORTLAND ON “SENIOR DAY”

Syracuse, N.Y. – In her final career home meet, senior Tara O'Donnell (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) won two individual events and teamed on a relay victory to lead the Le Moyne College women's swimming and diving team to a 138-100 victory over SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool. On the men's side, junior Tim Buff (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) won two individual events to lead the Dolphins to a 130-103 victory over the Red Dragons.

O'Donnell teamed with sophomores Alyssa Baker (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and Kelsey Smith (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) and freshman Emily Nicastro (Rochester, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) to win the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay in 1:54.06.

O'Donnell recorded her first individual by touching the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.82. Six events later, she won the 100-yard backstroke by almost three and one-half seconds with a time of 1:01.10.

Baker added an individual win to her relay victory by topping the field in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.67 seconds.

Senior Katelyn Votapka (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) also won two individual events in her final home meet. She earned her first victory of the afternoon in the first individual event, the 1650-yard freestyle, with a career-best and pool-record time of 18:10.70. The previous pool record of 18:27.6 was set by Meghan Nugent in 2009. She then won the 500-yard freestyle by almost nine seconds with a time of 5:32.26.

Senior Meghan Myers (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) completed her home career by winning the 200-yard IM in 2:24.32.

Buff earned his first victory of the afternoon by touching the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.73. He captured the second-to-last individual event of the day, the 500-yard freestyle, by just over one second with a time of 5:00.45.

A trio of Dolphins recorded an individual win and teamed on a relay victory. Sophomore Andy Raiola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) registered the team's first individual win of the meet by winning the 1650-yard freestyle by over 39 seconds with a time of 17:46.66. Sophomore Travis May (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) posted a time of 2:01.91 to win the 200-yard IM by just over three seconds. Freshman Cory Knapp (Weedsport, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) recorded a time of 49.93 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle to top the field by one second.

To close out the meet, Knapp, Raiola and May teamed with senior Mike Bardo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:26.79, which eclipsed the pool record by over one second. The previous mark of 1:27.88 was set against Utica College on October 25, 2008.

A pair of seniors added individual victories in their final home meet. Josh Byrne (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) won the first one-meter diving event with a score of 192.45. Classmate Daniel Tarbrake (Beltsville, Md./Gonzaga College High) posted a season best-tying time of 51.89 seconds to win the 100-yard butterfly by over three seconds.
