MEN’S SOCCER RECORDS 3-2 NON-CONFERENCE WIN OVER SLIPPERY ROCK

Slippery Rock, Pa. – Freshman forward Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) scored a pair of goals for the second time in three games to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 3-2 non-conference win over Slippery Rock University on Tuesday afternoon at James Egli Field.

After each goalkeeper was forced to make at least two saves in the opening 3:03 of the game, the Dolphins broke through just under seven minutes into the contest. Freshman midfielder Pablo Fernandez (Aviles, Spain/Real Oviedo) sent a cross from the left side in front of the net, where Faryar got his head on the ball to score his seventh goal of the season.

Following a save by each goalkeeper over the next 28 minutes, the Dolphins doubled their lead. Off a throw-in by junior midfielder Adam Resetarits (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt), senior midfielder Callum Donnelly (Edinburgh, Scotland/J. Gillespies/Webber International) headed the ball into the back of the net at the 35:21 mark for his third marker of the campaign.

Le Moyne extended its lead to three 18:11 into the second half. Just 43 seconds after entering the game, redshirt sophomore midfielder Seth Scarano (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) sent a pass from the left corner to the middle of the box, where Faryar was able to send a low shot into the net for his team-best eighth goal of the year, which is tied for the second-most in the Northeast-10 and the most in the league by a freshman.

Slippery Rock started its comeback bid in the 76th minute. Off a cross in front of the goal from the left side by Justin Minda, Jacob Thiel sent a shot inside the far post for his third goal of the year.

The Rock had a chance to pull within two with 7:20 remaining, but senior goalkeeper Matt Perry (Syracuse, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) turned away a penalty kick by Mike Pcholinsky.

Slippery Rock did pull within two, but it came with only seven seconds left in the game. Following a corner kick by Pcholinsky, Devin Hoffman served a cross from the left side to Adolfo Segura, who fired in a shot inside the far post.

Junior goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) registered three saves (against zero goals) over 71:36 between the pipes to earn his fifth straight victory. Steven Rerick took the loss for The Rock after yielding two goals in the first half, while making five saves. Le Moyne edged Slippery Rock in shots, 14-13, while The Rock posted a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (9-2-1), which went 3-0-1 in non-conference play this season to extend its non-conference unbeaten streak to 14-0-1 since dropping its 2013 opener, returns to Northeast-10 action on Saturday at Stonehill College at 11:00 a.m.
