MEN’S SOCCER HAS FIVE-GAME WIN STREAK SNAPPED BY STONEHILL, 3-1

Easton, Mass. – James O'Shea recorded a hat trick to lead Stonehill College to a 3-1 win over the Le Moyne College men's soccer team on Saturday in Northeast-10 Conference action at Skyhawk Field.

After Stonehill had three shots on goal turned away in the opening 13 and one half minutes of the game, the Skyhawks took advantage of a Le Moyne foul in the penalty box to get on the scoreboard. Following a red card issued to the Le Moyne goalkeeper and the awarding of a penalty kick, O'Shea stepped to the stripe and buried the shot into the net at the 19:07 mark for his fourth goal of the season.

Le Moyne put a shot on goal from the upper left corner of the penalty box 1:46 later, but Stonehill goalkeeper Conor McDonough recorded the save.

On the counterattack, the Skyhawks doubled their lead. Ryan Chieffo sent a cross from 40 yards out into the box, where O'Shea was able to head the ball inside the far right post at the 23:33 mark.

The Dolphins recorded the final three shots of the half, but only one was on target and it was saved by McDonough.

Following five shots by each team over the opening 18 minutes of the second half, the Dolphins broke through in the 64th minute. Off a cross from the left side by freshman midfielder Pablo Fernandez (Aviles, Spain/Real Oviedo), freshman forward Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) headed the ball over the goalkeeper's hands from the top of the goal box at the 63:36 mark for his ninth tally of the season.

Stonehill regained its two-goal lead just 73 seconds later. Off a long pass by Connor O'Brien, O'Shea ran onto the ball and slipped a shot inside the far left post.

Le Moyne put two more shots on goal over the last 15 minutes, but could not beat McDonough again.

Senior goalkeeper Matt Perry (Syracuse, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey) registered four saves (against three goals) over the final 70:55 to suffer his first career loss. McDonough finished the game with five saves to earn the victory. Le Moyne registered a 16-14 advantage in shots, while Stonehill posted a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (9-3-1, 6-3 NE-10), which has dropped three of its last four games at Stonehill after winning its first six matchups in Easton, is back in action on Wednesday at Assumption College at 4:00 p.m.
