Worcester, Mass. – Redshirt sophomore midfielder
Seth Scarano (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) scored with 17 seconds left in double overtime to give the Le Moyne College men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Assumption College on Wednesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
In the scoreless first half, the Dolphins registered the first six shots of the period, one of which had to be saved by the goalkeeper. The Greyhounds countered with the final three shots of the half over the final 11 minutes, with each of the shots needing to be saved by senior goalkeeper
Matt Perry (Syracuse, N.Y./Fabius-Pompey).
Each team recorded seven shots in the second half, but only two Le Moyne shots and one Assumption shot as on target.
After the Dolphins took the only three shots of the first overtime period, the Dolphins scored on the only shot of the second overtime period. Following an Assumption foul near midfield, sophomore back
Sam Daniel (Bonnyrigg, Scotland/Lasswade/University of Mobile) served the ball into the penalty box. After senior back
Ryan Matthews (Dublin, Ireland/Clonkeen College/Dublin Institute of Technology) headed the ball forward, Scarano touched the ball towards the goal and then fired a shot into the back of the net with 17 seconds left for his second goal of the season.
Perry, who made his first collegiate start between the pipes, recorded four saves, including three in the first half, to earn his first career win and shutout. Brian Murray registered four saves in the loss for the Greyhounds. The Dolphins finished the contest with a 17-10 advantage in shots, including all four shots in the overtime periods, while also posting a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
