Oneonta, N.Y. – Junior
Travis May (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) and freshman
Matthew Walton (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) recorded three first-place finishes to lead the Le Moyne College men's swimming and diving team to a second-place finish at the 11th Annual Hartwick College Relays on Saturday afternoon at Moyer Pool. Three members of the women's team combined for a first-place finish and a second-place finish to lead the Dolphins to a second-place finish.
Hartwick won the men's meet with 140 points. The Dolphins followed with 110 points, while SUNY Oneonta was third with 92 points. The College of Saint Rose recorded 74 points to place fourth, while Wells College had 30 points to place fifth.
The host Hawks also claimed the women's meet with 120 points. The Dolphins were eight points back in second place, while Saint Rose was another eight points behind in third. SUNY Oneonta turned in 80 points for fourth place and Wells completed the standings with 24 points.
May and Walton earned their first victory of the day by teaming with junior
Andy Raiola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) to place first in the 3x100-yard butterfly relay with a time of 2:42.32. The duo then teamed with senior
Tim Buff (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) to capture the 3x200-yard individual medley relay with a time of 6:10.33. They earned their third victory by joining sophomores
Cory Knapp (Weedsport, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) and
Eric Burdge (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay by over three and one-half seconds with a time of 3:20.40.
Buff was a member of Le Moyne's fourth victory of the day by teaming with Raiola, younger brother
Nick Buff (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) and freshman
Michael Dierolf (Pennsburg, Pa./Quakertown) to touch the wall first in the 800-yard medley relay by just 0.51 seconds in 8:14.33.
Tim Buff and Dierolf combined with junior
Pat McCormick (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) to place second in the 3x100-yard breaststroke relay in 3:08.74, while
Tim Buff, Raiola, Knapp and Burdge teamed for a second-place finish in the 850-yard crescendo relay in 8:11.45. Raiola tallied his fourth top-two finish by joining Nick Buff, Dierolf and Knapp to place second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:42.61. Nick Buff opened the meet by teaming with classmate
Cameron Keatley (Avon, N.Y./Avon) and junior
Greg Kelly (Gansevoort, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) to finish third in the 3x100-yard backstroke in 2:55.98. Redshirt junior
Henry Eisloeffel IV (Circleville, N.Y./Pine Bush) and sophomore
Connor Haldane (Homer, N.Y./Homer) combined to place third in the one-meter diving relay with 270.75 points.
On the women's side, juniors
Kelsey Smith (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley),
Alyssa Baker (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) and
Sarah Gaffney (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) combined with freshman
Jamie Alexander (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay by just over one second with a time of 1:45.22. The three juniors teamed with another freshman,
Paige Kieper (Lansing, N.Y./Lansing) to finish the 200-yard medley relay in second place by just 0.03 seconds in 2:00.14. Smith and Baker added a fourth-place finish in the 3x100-yard butterfly relay with sophomore
Emily Nicastro (Rochester, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) by posting a time of 3:16.08.
Junior
Brittney Liddy (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy/Iona) and sophomore
Kylee Wilson (Conesus, N.Y./Livonia) teamed to win both diving events. The duo posted 324.90 points to win the one-meter diving relay and registered 346.15 points to claim the three-meter diving relay.
Gaffney added a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Alexander, freshman
Haley Decker (Vernon, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and junior
Lindsey Wright (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) with a time of 3:56.41. Gaffney, Alexander and Decker were joined by freshman
Karen Silaika (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) to post a fourth-place time of 9:10.66 in the 850-yard crescendo relay. Wright was a member of Le Moyne's first win of the day by swimming the middle leg of the 3x100-yard breaststroke relay between classmates
Annie Steve (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) and
Madison Allen (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta). Steve combined with Nicastro and Decker to place fourth in the 3x200-yard individual medley relay in 7:26.29, while she and Nicastro joined Kieper and Silaika to place fourth in the 800-yard medley relay in 9:57.73.
The Dolphins return to the pool on Friday, October 28 at Nazareth College at 6:00 p.m.
