Rindge, N.H. – Freshman forward
Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) knocked in a rebound in the 58th minute to give the Le Moyne College men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over 19th-ranked Franklin Pierce University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Sodexo Field.
Following two shots by each team over the opening 37 minutes, including a shot on target by each team, the Ravens opened the games scoring. After carrying the ball down the left sideline, Casey Schehl crossed the ball to the top of the goal box, where it was headed into the right side of the net by Marius Preber at the 37:07 mark for his 11th goal of the season.
The Dolphins, who won in Rindge for just the third time in 16 all-time meetings (3-12-1) and for the first time since the 2005 Northeast-10 Conference Championship game (0-8-1 in between wins), answered back just four minutes later to even the score at one apiece. Off a scramble at the top of the penalty box after the goalkeeper was unable to collect the ball, redshirt sophomore midfielder
Seth Scarano (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) was able to flick the ball to his right to senior midfielder
Callum Donnelly (Edinburgh, Scotland/J. Gillespies/Webber International). After a touch, Donnelly fired a shot into the right side of the net for his fourth goal of the season.
Le Moyne took the lead just over 12 minutes into the second half. After Donnelly had a shot clang off the crossbar, Faryar gathered the rebound and sent a shot into the bottom left corner of the net for his team-best 10th goal of the campaign.
Franklin Pierce got off five shots over the final 15 minutes of the game, including two that were on target, but could not tally the equalizer.
Junior goalkeeper
Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) registered four saves, including three in the second half, to earn his 10th win of the season and the 34th of his career. Aidan Abolfazli took the loss after giving up the goal in the second half, while making one save. Le Moyne edged the Ravens in shots, 10-9, while also taking one more corner kick, 5-4.
