West Haven, Conn. – Freshman forward
Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) scored twice to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the University of New Haven in the Northeast-10 Conference regular season finale for both teams on Friday afternoon at Kayo Field.
With the victory, the Dolphins close out the regular season with a 12-3-2 overall record and a 9-3-1 mark in Northeast-10 action. The Dolphins have clinched the third seed in next week's Northeast-10 Conference Championship. The Dolphins will face sixth-seeded Assumption College in the first round on Tuesday at Ted Grant Field at 1:00 p.m. The Dolphins defeated the Greyhounds in the teams' regular-season matchup, 1-0, in double overtime last Wednesday.
The Dolphins opened the game's scoring with the only goal they would need just over four minutes into the contest. Following a corner kick, the ball made its way to redshirt junior midfielder
Marcello Palucci (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep/Florida International) at the top left corner of the penalty box. He chipped the ball towards the far right post, where it was headed back in front of the net by senior back
Jack Ball (Sunbury, England/Bishop Wand/Bryant & Stratton). Faryar ran onto the ball inside the goal box and headed it into the left side of the net for his 11th tally of the year.
Le Moyne extended its lead with just over five minutes left in the first half. Off a corner kick from the left side by redshirt sophomore midfielder
Seth Scarano (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane), Faryar tallied his team-best 12th goal of the campaign. The 12 goals are tied for the ninth-most in a single season in the program's history and are the most since Angelo Reina '11 tallied a program-best 20 in 2009. The 12 are the most by a Le Moyne freshman in the program's history.
Junior goalkeeper
Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) registered one save in each half to earn the win between the pipes. With the victory, Beaury moves into a tie for fourth place on the program's career wins list with his 35th. The shutout gives him 21 for his career, pulling him within five of the program's record. Stefano Lorusso recorded seven saves, including six in the first half, in the setback for the Chargers. Le Moyne posted a 17-5 advantage in shots, including 13-2 in the first half, while taking four of the game's six corner kicks.
