WOMEN’S SOCCER DROPS FINAL ROAD GAME, 1-0, AT FRANKLIN PIERCE

Rindge, N.H. – Anna Holtschlag scored early in the first half as Franklin Pierce University recorded a 1-0 victory over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Sodexo Field.

Following shots by each team over the opening seven minutes of the game, the Ravens struck for the only goal they would need in the 14th minute. Nathalia Maria da Silva served a corner kick from the left side to the top of the goal box, where Holtschlag was able to head the ball into the back of the net for her first tally of the year.

Each team registered seven shots over the remainder of the first half, including three shots each that were on target, but neither team could score.

Franklin Pierce put seven of 13 shots on goal in the second half, but could not add to its lead, while the Dolphins took five shots, but only one was put on goal and it was turned away.

Sophomore goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida), the reigning Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Week, registered a career best-tying 10 saves, including seven in the second half, to keep the Dolphins within striking distance. Casey Cook posted five saves, including four in the first half, in the victory for the Ravens. Franklin Pierce finished the game with a 23-13 advantage in shots, while posting a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (8-7-1, 6-6-1 NE-10), which closes out the regular season on Saturday at home against Stonehill College at 12:00 p.m., enters the final game within reach of one of the final three spots in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship. There are currently five teams separated by one point for the final three spots.
