MEN’S SOCCER EDGES BENTLEY AT HOME, 1-0

Syracuse, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's soccer team received a goal by senior back Ryan Matthews (Dublin, Ireland/Clonkeen College/Dublin Institute of Technology) midway through the first half as the Dolphins registered a 1-0 win over Bentley University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins struck for the only goal they would need 24 and one-half minutes into the contest. Following a corner kick from the left side, sophomore back Sam Daniel (Bonnyrigg, Scotland/Lasswade/University of Mobile) served the ball into the penalty box. Freshman forward Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) settled the ball and sent a short pass to the top middle of the goal box, where Matthews slipped a shot into the middle of the net for his third goal of the season.

The final 20 minutes of the first half featured just one shot, a blocked attempt by the Falcons.

The second half featured just three shots on goal, all of which came in the first 17 minutes of the stanza, but each was turned aside by the goalkeeper.

Junior goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) registered one save to earn his eighth win of the season and his fourth shutout of the campaign, which is tied for the second-most in the Northeast-10. The win gives Beaury 32 in his Dolphin career, which moves him into sole possession of fifth place on the program's career wins list, while the shutout is the 19th of his career, which moves him into a three-way tie for third on the program's career shutouts chart. Harrison Rapant recorded four saves in the loss for Bentley. Le Moyne posted a 9-3 advantage in shots and took 10 of the game's 12 corner kicks.

Le Moyne (8-2-1, 6-2 NE-10), which defeated Bentley at home for the first time since November 1, 2009 (0-2-1 in the span), concludes its non-conference schedule on Tuesday at Slippery Rock University at 3:00 p.m.
