Syracuse, N.Y. – Junior
Kelsey Smith (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) won three individual events to lead the Le Moyne College women's swimming and diving team to a 156-131 victory over The College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool. Five Dolphins were double winners as the Le Moyne men defeated Saint Rose, 170-112.
With the sweep, Le Moyne College claims the sixth edition of the "Upstate Challenge" between Le Moyne and Saint Rose. Through 10 of the 17 sports, Le Moyne holds a 9-1 lead. The "Upstate Challenge" has now been won twice by Le Moyne (2012-13 & 2016-17), once by Saint Rose (2011-12) and tied three times (2013-14, 2014-15 & 2015-16).
Smith earned her first win of the meet by touching the wall in 1:08.57 in the 100-yard breaststroke. In the ninth event of the afternoon, she won the 100-yard freestyle by half a second with a time of 56.32 seconds. She completed her day by winning the 200-yard IM by almost five seconds with a time of 2:14.16.
Junior
Brittney Liddy (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy/Iona) swept the two one-meter diving events. She registered 164.40 points to claim the first diving event. She won the second event by posting 212.05 points.
Freshman
Karen Silaika (Rexford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) was Le Moyne's first winner as she captured the 1000-yard freestyle by almost four seconds with a time of 11:28.89.
Freshman
Jamie Alexander (Pine Bush, N.Y./Pine Bush) was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle by just 0.12 seconds with a time of 26.22 seconds. She teamed with juniors
Lindsey Wright (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury),
Sarah Gaffney (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) and
Alyssa Baker (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:43.26.
Senior
Tim Buff (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) collected Le Moyne's first win by touching the wall first in the 1000-yard freestyle by over nine seconds with a time of 10:40.72. He then won the 200-yard backstroke by two and one-half seconds with a time of 2:00.73.
Freshman
Matthew Walton (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) picked up his first win of the afternoon with a time of 1:47.12 in the 200-yard freestyle. He was the first Dolphin to win two events by touching the wall in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.80 seconds.
Junior
Andy Raiola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier) tallied his first of two wins by placing first in the 200-yard butterfly by over nine seconds with a time of 1:59.54. His second win came in the 500-yard freestyle, where he posted a time of 4:59.51.
Sophomore
Connor Haldane (Homer, N.Y./Homer) was victorious in both one-meter diving events. He recorded 141.70 to win the first diving event. He captured the second event with 189.90 points.
Junior
Travis May (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) was the team's fifth double winner as he earned his first win in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.04 seconds. He collected the team's final victory by winning the 200-yard IM by 0.69 seconds with a time of 2:00.29.
Sophomore
Cory Knapp (Weedsport, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) turned in a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.19 seconds.
The Dolphins, who completed their dual-meet schedule for the semester, wrap up the semester at Ithaca College's Bomber Invitational Friday, December 2 through Sunday, December 4.
