MEN’S BASKETBALL WINS FOURTH STRAIGHT, 70-64, OVER CALDWELL

Caldwell, N.J. – Junior guard Tanner Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland/Bridgton Academy) scored 12 points in the second half to lead the Le Moyne College men's basketball team to a 70-64 win over Caldwell University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Newman Center.

Hyland finished the contest with a game high-tying 17 points, while adding a game-best five assists. Junior guard Anthony Richards (New Castle, Pa./New Castle/West Virginia Wesleyan) recorded 15 points, tying his high as a Dolphin, and pulled down a career-best six rebounds. Junior forwards Isaiah Eisendorf (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook/Gannon) and Daniel Kaigler (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden/Gannon) each tallied 13 points.

Ahmad Harrison led the Cougars in the loss with 17 points, 15 of which came in the first half, while adding five rebounds and three assists. Zay Jennings tallied 10 of his 16 points in the second half, while Derek Dorn recorded 12 of his 14 points after halftime. Ruud Lutterman was the fourth Cougar in double figures with 10 points, while posting eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

After the teams split the first 10 points of the game, the Cougars rattled off 11 straight points to take the largest lead of the game. Lutterman had the first two, Jennings nailed back-to-back three-pointers and then Harrison drilled a three-pointer with 14:03 left in the half.

The Dolphins got their deficit down to three on a trio of occasions, but Harrison drained another three-pointer with 5:35 left for a 30-21 Caldwell advantage.

Le Moyne closed out the half with 10 of the last 13 points, including the final six, to pull within two at halftime, 33-31. Eisendorf had the first four before a Harrison three-pointer and then Richards connected on a three-pointer and Eisendorf made a jumper in the paint to conclude the half's scoring.

After Jennings opened the second half with a jumper, the Dolphins tallied nine of the next 13 points to take their first lead of the game with 14:50 left. Following two points apiece from three Dolphins, Richards nailed a three-pointer in transition for a 40-39 lead.

Caldwell answered back with a 9-2 run to take the lead back. Lutterman converted two foul shots, Dorn scored five straight points and then Jennings made a lay-up for a 48-42 advantage.

Following a Daan Vianen three-pointer with 10:09 remaining to give Caldwell a 53-48 lead, the Dolphins tallied six straight points to take the lead and 16 of the next 19 points overall to take their largest lead of the game. Richards started the run with a three-pointer and Hyland followed with one of his own to put the Dolphins in front. Following alternating free throws by Jennings and Kaigler, Hyland and Kaigler converted jump shots for a five-point edge. After Jennings got the Cougars within three with a jumper, Kaigler made another jumper and senior forward Stan Buczek (Port Jervis, N.Y./Burke Catholic), who pulled down a game-high nine rebounds, buried a three-pointer for a 64-56 advantage with 3:49 to play.

Jennings answered with a three-pointer to start a 6-0 run to get Caldwell within two with 2:10 remaining. Dorn accounted for the other three points in the stretch from the foul line.

After Hyland hit a jumper with 1:50 left, Harrison forced a turnover and went in for a fast-break lay-up to trim Caldwell's deficit back to two with 1:12 remaining. However, Harrison was issued a technical foul following the basket, which enabled the Dolphins to score the final four points of the game from the foul line.

Le Moyne (8-3), which has won eight of its first 11 games for the second time in three seasons, concludes its non-conference schedule on Saturday, December 31 against Felician University at 12:00 p.m.
