WOMEN’S SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAM PLACES 14TH AT ECAC CHAMPIONSHIP, MEN PLACE 16TH

Annapolis, Md. – The Le Moyne College men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out their seasons at the ECAC Championships Friday through Sunday at the U.S. Naval Academy. The women placed 14th among the 23 scoring teams with 75 points, while the men placed 16th among the 23 scoring teams with 35 points.

Senior Tara O'Donnell (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) was a part of all 75 points for the women's team. Individually, she tallied 13 points, while she was a member of four relays teams that totaled 62 points. On the men's side, senior Josh Byrne (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) led the Dolphins by recording 12 of the team's 17 individual points, while the Dolphins added 18 points in relay events.

Individually, O'Donnell finished in sixth place in the 200-yard backstroke to earn 13 points with a time of 2:03.79, the fifth-fastest time of her career and her second-fastest over the last two seasons. She recorded an 18th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in a season-best 1:53.46. She placed 22nd in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.09 seconds, the second-fastest time in the program's history and just 0.09 seconds behind her time from the NE-10 Championship three weeks ago.

The quartet of O'Donnell and sophomores Alyssa Baker (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua), Kelsey Smith (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) and Sarah Gaffney (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) opened the meet by finishing ninth in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:39.39. O'Donnell, Smith and Gaffney teamed with freshman Emily Nicastro () to place ninth in the 400-yard medley relay in 4:02.31. O'Donnell, Smith, Baker and Gaffney combined to place 10th in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:48.90. O'Donnell, Baker, Gaffney and sophomore Annie Steve (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) closed out the women's portion of the meet by placing 11th in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:42.62.

Smith placed 18th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.56, while Steve was 23rd in 1:08.90, the second-fastest time of her career. Baker placed 33rd in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.38, the third-fastest time of her career.

Byrne opened the meet by placing 11th in the three-meter diving event with a six-dive score of 200.35. He also placed 11th in the one-meter diving event for six points by posting a six-dive score of 211.35.

Junior Tim Buff (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) earned Le Moyne's other five individual points as he registered a 12th-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke in a season-best time of 2:06.98, the second-fastest time in the program's history and just 0.14 seconds shy of his school record. He also recorded a time of 4:45.76, the second-fastest of his career, to place 30th in the 500-yard freestyle, while he turned in a 19th-place finish in the 400-yard IM in 4:11.49.

Buff was a member of all four of Le Moyne's relay teams, which tallied 18 points. He opened the meet by teaming with sophomore Travis May (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane), freshman Eric Burdge (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and junior Phil Stolarski (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) to place 16th in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:29.28. The quartet closed out the meet by finishing 14th in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:15.95. Buff, May and Burdge combined with sophomore Pat McCormick (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) to place 13th in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:32.84. The quartet also finished 16th in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:37.99.

Individually, May placed 19th in the 100-yard butterfly in 50.30 seconds, the third-best time in the program's history and his second-fastest time. McCormick finished in 31st place in the 100-yard breaststroke in a career-best time of 1:00.05, while Stolarski recorded a career-best time of 1:00.88 to place 36th.

Byrne returns to the pool on Tuesday, March 8 at the NCAA Championship, which is being held at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
