Albany, N.Y. – Mical-Ryan Boyd scored a career-high 23 points to lead The College of Saint Rose to a 79-66 come-from-behind victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team on Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
Senior guard
Qwadere Lovell (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon) led the Dolphins offensively with 14 points, including seven points in each half, while adding a game-best five assists and a team-high four rebounds.
Boyd led four Golden Knights in double-figures with his career-best point total, 15 of which he scored in the second half, while adding a game-high eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Tyler Sayre tallied 20 points, including a 10-for-10 performance from the foul line. Shane Herrity went 6-for-6 from the foul line and Damon Coleman was 5-for-5 as they each scored 11 points. The Golden Knights finished the game 27-for-27 from the foul line. Combined with Le Moyne's 7-for-7 effort from the charity stripe for a perfect 34-for-34 performance, the teams broke the Division II record for combined free throw percentage. The previous record of 97.0% (32 of 33) was set by the University of Hartford and Bentley University on February 22, 1983.
Sayre scored the first four points of the game as Saint Rose jumped out to a 10-5 lead 3:11 into the contest.
After three more five-point leads by the Golden Knights, the last of which was 17-12 with 12:27 remaining, the Dolphins posted a 6-2 spurt to get within one. Sophomore guard
Anthony Richards (New Castle, Pa./New Castle/West Virginia Wesleyan) buried a three-pointer and then classmate
Russell Sangster (Rockville, Md./Bullis School) registered a conventional three-point play.
The Golden Knights rattled off the next seven points to take their largest lead of the half, but the Dolphins countered with six straight points to get back within two, 26-24, with 7:52 remaining.
After Saint Rose scored five of the next seven points for a 31-26 lead with 6:53 left in the half, the Dolphins tallied nine straight points to take the lead. Sophomore forward
Daniel Kaigler (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden/Gannon) recorded a conventional three-point play and then Richards drained a pair of three-pointers for a 35-31 advantage with 4:25 remaining.
Following a three-point play by Sayre, Lovell made two shots to give the Dolphins a 39-34 lead at halftime.
Le Moyne scored seven of the first 11 points of the second half to extend its lead to eight points with 16:53 left. Sophomore guard
Tanner Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland/Bridgton Academy) buried a three-pointer and made a lay-up around a jumper by Lovell.
Saint Rose countered with seven straight points to pull within one point. Julian Lipinski made a fast-break lay-up and then Sayre scored five points over two possessions.
After the teams alternated points over the next 2:19, leading to a 52-49 Le Moyne lead with 12:10 left, the Golden Knights ran off 16 straight points while the Dolphins went scoreless for 7:49. Boyd led the run with nine points, while Herrity hit a three-pointer and Sayre and Jack Jones each made two free throws.
Once the Dolphins snapped their drought, they scored seven straight points to get within six with 2:35 left. Kaigler made a lay-up and converted two foul shots around a three-pointer by freshman guard

After the Dolphins got within six on two more occasions, Saint Rose tallied 10 of the last 13 points of the game. Herrity recorded eight of the points, including six from the foul line, while Boyd added two free throws.
Le Moyne (6-14, 4-11 NE-10), which beat the Golden Knights at home on December 2, travels to Springfield, Massachusetts on Saturday to take on American International College at 3:30 p.m.
