SECOND-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE REGISTERS 12-5 WIN OVER 15TH-RANKED MOUNT OLIVE

Baltimore, Md. – Senior attackman Logan Thomas (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool/Onondaga C.C.) scored a career high-tying four goals to lead the second-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 12-5 win over the 15th-ranked University of Mount Olive on Sunday evening at Johns Hopkins University's Homewood Field.

The Dolphins opened the game's scoring just 37 seconds into the contest. After graduate student midfielder Matt Taylor (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius/Cornell) had his shot saved, senior attackman Mike Jenkins (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) picked up the loose ball and dumped it into the back of the net.

Mount Olive tallied the next two goals to take the lead. The Trojans evened the score at one apiece only 48 seconds after the goal by Jenkins as Brett Kingston finished off a pass from Austin Whitlow for his eighth goal of the year. Kingston netted his second straight goal with 6:11 left after receiving a pass from Jesse Mitchell.

The Dolphins scored twice over the final 4:46 of the first quarter to regain the lead. Sophomore midfielder Bailey Wilkinson (Black River, N.Y./Carthage) knotted the score by firing in a shot from the left side with 4:46 to go. Thomas gave the Dolphins the lead with 45 seconds remaining after collecting a feed from senior attackman Andrew Jackson (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger).

The teams traded goals over the opening minute of the second quarter. Le Moyne took a 4-2 lead at the 14:16 mark as Jackson tallied his fifth goal of the season off a pass from senior midfielder Nick Kline (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool). Off the ensuing faceoff, Tyler Feniello scooped up the ball before feeding Matt Shields for his 17th goal of the year just 16 seconds later.

Le Moyne scored three times over the final 3:46 of the quarter to take a 7-3 lead into the intermission. Thomas started the run with 3:46 left off a pass from Jackson. Just 57 seconds later, Thomas netted his third goal of the game after taking a feed from Wilkinson. Jackson closed out the half by scoring from the left side of the crease with 1.5 seconds left after a restart.

The Dolphins extended their run to 6-0 by scoring three times in the third quarter. Taylor got the scoring started in the quarter with an unassisted tally at the 13:18 mark. He scored again six minutes later for his ninth goal of the campaign. Sophomore attackman/midfielder Justin Kesselring (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) put the Dolphins up 10-3 with 2:00 left with his seventh tally of the season.

The Trojans snapped their scoreless drought of 28:58 by scoring with two seconds left in the quarter as Adam Lenhard finished off a pass from Spencer Gelinas.

Le Moyne extended its lead to 12-4 with the first two goals of the fourth quarter. Thomas completed his scoring for the night with 10:02 left collecting a feed from junior midfielder Alex O'Brien (Hanson, Mass./Boston College High). Jackson registered his third goal of the game with 4:45 to play off a pass from Kesselring.

Mount Olive completed the game's scoring with 1:19 left as Whitlow recorded his seventh goal of the season.

Redshirt senior goalkeeper Alex Krawec (Kirkville, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa/Onondaga C.C.) registered eight saves over 58:55 between the pipes to earn the victory. Ross Bowman took the loss after yielding 12 goals over 56:33, while making seven saves.
