DeWitt, N.Y. – Five players were double-winners as the Le Moyne College men's tennis team defeated Union College, 8-1, on Sunday afternoon at Gold's Gym.
The Dolphins opened the match by sweeping the doubles competition. At the top spot, junior
James Gayvert (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and sophomore
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) recorded an 8-1 win over Max McGeown and Brendan Conry Jr. Sophomore
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) and freshman
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) posted an 8-3 win at the second position over David Brown and Zach Kaplan, while redshirt senior
Stephane Legris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury/Adirondack C.C.) and junior
Benjamin Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) defeated John Kodera and Max Sandberg at the third spot, 8-2.
In singles action, Barton was victorious at the second spot, 6-3, 6-4, over McGeown, while Doney was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Conry Jr. at the third position for his team-best fourth win of the year. Legris captured the point at fourth singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Brown, while Spoor registered a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sandberg at the fifth spot. Underwood rounded out the win by defeating Shanley, 6-2, 6-4, at sixth singles. Kaplan earned Union's lone point by edging Gayvert at first singles, 6-4, 7-5.
Le Moyne (2-6), which has won back-to-back matches, returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday, March 23 against American International College at 3:00 p.m. at Central High School in Springfield, Massachusetts.
