MEN’S SOCCER TOPS ROBERTS WESLEYAN, 2-0, TO REMAIN UNBEATEN

Rochester, N.Y. – Freshman forward Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) scored midway through the first half to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College on Tuesday evening in non-conference action at the RWC Stadium.

Following back-and-forth play over the opening 22 minutes of the game, the Dolphins struck for the only goal they would need in the 23rd minute. After collecting the ball in space, Faryar carried the ball into the penalty box, dribbled it around the goalkeeper and slipped a shot into the empty net for his third goal of the season. Faryar's seven points are the most by a Dolphin freshman through the first four games of the season in over 14 years.

The Dolphins recorded a 4-1 advantage in shots over the final 22:25 of the half, but could not add to their lead.

Following four errant shots over the first 10 and one-half minutes of the second half, the Dolphins doubled their lead off a corner kick. Sophomore back Sam Daniel (Bonnyrigg, Scotland/Lasswade/University of Mobile) sent the kick into the penalty box, where it was headed into the back of the net by senior midfielder Callum Donnelly (Edinburgh, Scotland/J. Gillespies/Webber International) for his first goal in two seasons as a Dolphin.

Roberts Wesleyan took six of the next seven shots, but could not find the back of the net.

Junior goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) registered a pair of saves in the second half to post his second consecutive shutout and the 17th of his career. John Ciavaglia recorded seven saves, including four in the first half, in the loss for the Redhawks. Le Moyne recorded a 17-10 advantage in shots, including 9-3 in the first half, and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (3-0-1), which is unbeaten through its first four games for the first time since the 2009 season, returns to action on Saturday at Adelphi University at 3:00 p.m. The Dolphins have defeated the Panthers in the regular season in each of Adelphi's three years in the Northeast-10, but the Panthers have defeated the Dolphins in the first round of the NE-10 Championship each of the three years.
