MEN’S SOCCER SUFFERS FIRST LOSS, 1-0, AT 20TH-RANKED ADELPHI

Garden City, N.Y. – James Thristino scored early in the second half to lead 20th-ranked Adelphi University to a 1-0 victory over the Le Moyne College men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at Motamed Field.

In the scoreless first half, the Panthers registered a 7-5 advantage in shots, but neither team was able to find the back of the net as each team's goalkeeper made two saves.

The Panthers tallied the only goal they would need in the fourth minute of the second half. After Adelphi moved the ball up field following a missed Le Moyne shot, Joseph Sanchez sent a pass to Thristino, who scored the game-winning goal in Adelphi's 2-0 win over the Dolphins in the first round of the NE-10 Championship last year. From just inside the top of the penalty box, fired a shot into the net for his second goal of the season at the 48:16 mark.

The Dolphins increased its offensive pressure over the final 40-plus minutes of the contest, but failed to find the back of the net for the first time this season. The Dolphins put four shots on goal in the stanza, but Adelphi goalkeeper Spenser Powell was able to turn each away as he registered his second shutout of the Dolphins in 10.5 months.

Junior goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) registered two saves, both in the first half, between the pipes for the Dolphins. Powell finished the game with six saves to earn his fourth win of the season. Le Moyne registered a 16-10 advantage in shots, while posting a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (3-1-1, 1-1 NE-10), which lost to Adelphi in the regular season for the first time in four meetings as Northeast-10 Conference members, returns to action at home on Wednesday against The College of Saint Rose at 4:00 p.m.
