Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – Jessica Brandt recorded a goal and two assists to lead Mercy College to a 5-1 victory over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Tuesday afternoon at Mercy Field.
Mercy struck first just over three minutes into the game. Off a cross from the right side of the penalty box by Kennedy Salerno, Brandt tucked the ball into the back of the empty net at the 3:07 mark after the ball got by the diving goalkeeper.
Le Moyne evened the score at one apiece just over 10 minutes later. After collecting the ball on her defensive side of midfield, junior forward
Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) played the ball up the middle of the field. Senior midfielder/forward
Rachel Terry (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) ran onto the ball in open space and then slipped a shot from 15 yards inside the far right post for her fourth goal of the season.
The Mavericks regained the lead only five minutes later. After having her initial shot on a breakaway saved at the top of the penalty box by sophomore goalkeeper
Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida), Dominique Banks collected the loose ball and knocked it into middle of the net for her first goal of the year.
Haley Noble gave Mercy a 3-1 advantage at the 24:33 mark after carrying the ball down the left sideline and firing a shot from 10 yards out.
Just over five minutes later, Brandt played a through ball to Corinna Ferrante, who evaded the Le Moyne defense and slipped a shot into the left side of the goal.
Noble completed the game's scoring at the 38:48 mark from inside the goal box after taking a cross from Trista Seara.
Mercy registered an 8-2 advantage in shots in the second half, but was unable to add to its lead as Cumika turned away each of the four shots put on goal.
Cumika finished the game with nine saves in suffering just the third loss in her 14-game career. Ashley Price registered six saves (all in the first half) in the victory for the Mavericks. Mercy recorded a 21-11 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
