MEN’S SOCCER HAS 15-GAME HOME WIN STREAK SNAPPED BY MERRIMACK, 2-1

Syracuse, N.Y. – Juan Meza scored early in the second half to give Merrimack College a 2-1 win over the Le Moyne College men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins had their 15-game home win streak snapped with the loss. Their last home loss came on October 14, 2014 against American International, 1-0.

After being outshot 5-1 over the first 17 and one-half minutes of the game, the Dolphins got on the scoreboard first at the 24:16 mark. Following a Merrimack foul on the right side of the field, sophomore back Sam Daniel (Bonnyrigg, Scotland/Lasswade/ University of Mobile) served the free kick into the goal box, where graduate student midfielder Tom McConway (Hertfordshire, England/Chesham FC/ Nottingham Trent University) headed the ball into the lower right side of the net for his first goal as a Dolphin.

Just over 14 minutes later, Merrimack evened the score at one apiece. After Lars Sund had his shot hit the crossbar, Aasmund Joedahl headed the rebound into the right side of the net for his first career goal.

On the first shot of the second half, Merrimack netted the game-winning goal. Jaime Cortes Torres carried the ball down the left side before crossing the ball in front of the net. With the ball getting past the goalkeeper, Meza beat his defender to the ball and knocked it into the back of the net from one yard off the goal line at the 55:35 mark before colliding with the goalkeeper.

The Dolphins had a chance to tie the score seven minutes later, but the weak shot was easily saved by Merrimack goalkeeper Tyler Packett.

Le Moyne's best scoring chance came with only 2:51 left, but freshman forward Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) had his header towards the open net kicked out of the air at the goal line by defender Mattia Lanzi.

Junior goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) had one final chance for the Dolphins off a corner kick, but his first career shot with 25 seconds left was high and to the right of the upper right corner.

Beaury finished the game with one save in his second loss to the Warriors. Packett recorded three saves in his sixth win of the season. Each team took nine shots in the contest, while Le Moyne posted seven of the game's nine corner kicks.

Le Moyne (4-2-1, 2-2 NE-10), which lost to the Warriors at home for the first time since the first round of the 2007 Northeast-10 Conference Championship (4-0-2 in the span), is back in action on Tuesday at Saint Anselm College at 4:00 p.m.
