Manchester, N.H. – Senior midfielder
Callum Donnelly (Edinburgh, Scotland/J. Gillespies/Webber International) scored four and one-half minutes into the first overtime period to give the Le Moyne College men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference on Tuesday afternoon at Melucci Field.
The Dolphins got on the scoreboard first just nine minutes into the game. From 35 yards out, redshirt junior midfielder
Marcello Palucci (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep/Florida International) sent a shot towards the goal. It deflected off of a defender's head and over the goalkeeper for his third goal of the season.
Saint Anselm answered back 11 minutes later with the game-tying goal. Off a throw-in from Dan Kelly into the middle of the box, Emmet O'Callaghan collected the ball and fired a shot into the far lower left corner of the net for his third tally of the campaign.
Each team took one shot the remainder of the half, but each was wide of the net.
The teams combined for 13 shots in the second half, with the Dolphins holding a 7-6 edge, but neither team could tally the game-winner in regulation. The Dolphins put four shots on target, but goalkeeper Stephen McLeod rejected each.
After the initial shot of the first overtime period was blocked, Donnelly ended the game with his second goal of the season. Following a free kick, Donnelly knocked the loose ball into the net from the middle of the box.
Junior goalkeeper
Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) earned his fifth win of the season between the pipes despite not making a save for the second time in three games (both wins). McLeod finished the game with four saves in the loss. Le Moyne registered a 12-8 advantage in shots and held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (5-2-1, 3-2 NE-10) returns home to take on #2 nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The Penmen have dropped just three of their last 70 games, with one of the three losses coming to the Dolphins the last time the Penmen visited Le Moyne (10/25/14). The loss snapped SNHU's 37-game unbeaten streak, which was the second-longest unbeaten streak in Division II history.
