WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS AT AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, 4-1

Springfield, Mass. – American International College scored three times in the second half to record a 4-1 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at Abdow Field.

The Yellow Jackets, the only unbeaten and untied team remaining in Northeast-10 play at 5-0, struck for the game's first goal just over seven minutes into the game. After collecting a pass from Jessica Margaretta, Isabella Burns slotted a shot into the back of the net at the 7:07 for her first goal of the season.

American International took seven shots over the final 30 minutes of the half, but could not add to its lead.

Le Moyne evened the score at one apiece only 2:46 into the second half. From her side of midfield, junior midfielder Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) lofted a ball up field. Junior midfielder Stephanie Liberati (Liverpool, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) ran onto the ball and slipped a breakaway shot from just inside the top of the penalty box into the right side of the goal for her second tally of the campaign.

The Yellow Jackets responded back just 1:42 later to regain the lead on Federica Frew's fourth goal of the season.

American International took advantage of deflections to increase its lead. At the 56:57 mark, Johanna Nilsson blasted a shot from the right side of the penalty box off a Le Moyne defender and into the net for her first goal of the year. In similar fashion 15 minutes later, Linnea Herbertsson fired a shot from the center of the penalty box off a defender and into the goal for her first tally of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida) registered seven saves, including four in the first half, in the setback. Madison Brown earned the win for the Yellow Jackets after playing the first 75 minutes between the pipes. American International registered a 20-2 advantage in shots and posted a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (3-4-1, 1-3-1 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University at 4:00 p.m.
