Colchester, Vt. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team swept singles action for the first time this season en route to a 7-2 victory over Saint Michael's College on Sunday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action.
The Purple Knights were victorious at the top two spots to take a 2-1 lead in the match through the doubles competition. Le Moyne earned the first point of the day as junior
Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) and freshman
Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit) defeated Melissa Wood and Katie Costa at the third position, 8-1. Amelia Weeks and Caroline Sumner evened the match at one apiece for the Purple Knights with an 8-6 win over freshmen
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) at the second spot. Saint Michael's took a 2-1 lead as Abby Ramsay and Margaret de Pont edged seniors
Rithika Vajjiravelu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu/Kendriya Vidyalaya) and
Amica Benoit-Limosani (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec/Collège Saint-Maurice) at the first position, 9-8 (8-6).
In the singles competition, St. Antoine started the action by defeating Weeks at the fourth position, 6-2, 6-1. Benoit-Limosani followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at the third spot over Wood. Vajjiravelu gave the Dolphins a 4-2 lead in the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ramsay at the first position. Hamdan recorded the closest win of the afternoon, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, at the second spot over de Pont. Nunez and Humala each tallied 6-2, 6-3 wins at the fifth and sixth spots over Sumner and Anna Schneider, respectively.
Le Moyne (5-2, 4-2 NE10), which won three matches over the last six days, returns to the courts on Tuesday at The College of Saint Rose at 3:30 p.m.
