Albany, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose netted the tying goal with 4:18 remaining as the Golden Knights and the Le Moyne College men's soccer team played to a 2-2 double-overtime tie on Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Saint Rose opened the game's scoring on its first shot of the night. Off a feed from Carlos Manjivar towards the top right corner of the penalty box, Kyle Clemens beat the goalkeeper to the ball and sent a shot into the left side of the empty net at the 7:48 mark for his third goal of the season.
The Dolphins evened the score at one apiece with 2:10 remaining in the first half. Off a corner kick from the left flag by freshman midfielder
Joe Falcone (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), redshirt junior midfielder
Seth Scarano (Valatie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) redirected the ball into the net from the left post for his first marker of the season.
Each team put a shot on goal over the final 90 seconds, but the goalkeepers were able to keep the score tied at one heading into halftime.
After outshooting the Golden Knights, 5-1, over the opening 30 minutes of the second half, the Dolphins took the lead in the 77th minute. Off an errant clear attempt by Saint Rose following a long pass by the Dolphins, first-year graduate student back
Niklas Breunung (Fulda, Germany/Freiherr-vom-Stein Schule Fulda/Hochschule Fulda/University of Applied Sciences) fired a low line drive towards the goal from 18 yards out that hit off a defender and went into the left side of the net for his third tally of the campaign.
The Golden Knights took advantage of a Le Moyne foul along the left sideline to net the equalizing goal. Ryan Rooney served the free kick into the middle of the penalty box, where it hit off the back of a leaping Le Moyne defender before it could be caught by the goalkeeper. Adekitan Taiwo was alone on the right side of the box and was able to slip the loose ball into the back of the net at the 85:42 mark for his first goal of the year.
Neither team was able to record a shot on goal in the closing minutes of regulation.
Saint Rose had a pair of scoring chances in the first overtime period, but the first attempt was just wide left and the second hit the right post from 25 yards out.
The Golden Knights had another chance with 3:25 remaining in the second overtime session, but senior goalkeeper
Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) was able to dive and punch the ball away.
The Dolphins had a shot saved with 2:16 remaining and another attempt blocked out of bounds with 39 seconds to play.
Beaury registered a pair of saves in his fifth career tie. Gianni Carillo tallied seven saves, including four in the second half, in between the pipes for the Golden Knights. Le Moyne recorded a 19-9 advantage in shots, including 10-2 in the second half, while posting a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks, including 6-0 in the second half.
