MERRIMACK DOWNS WOMEN’S SOCCER IN OVERTIME, 2-1

Syracuse, N.Y. – Taylor Cogliano scored 2:30 into overtime to give Merrimack College a 2-1 victory over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The teams combined for 13 shots in the first half, but neither team was able to score. The Dolphins tallied all four of the shots that were put on goal, but each was saved.

The Dolphins took the lead just 8:55 into the second half. Senior forward Adela Racic (Utica, N.Y./Thomas R. Proctor/Bryant & Stratton) carried the ball into the right side of the box before sending a shot towards the right side of the net. The goalkeeper was unable to corral the shot and the ball fell to her left and into the goal for Racic's second tally of the season.

Merrimack evened the score 5:18 following a handball on the Dolphins in the penalty box. Gigi Guenther took the attempt and slotted the ball just off the goalkeeper's fingers and into the middle of the net for her fourth marker of the campaign.

The Dolphins put four shots on goal over the final 30:12 of regulation, but goalkeeper Erin Fulton was able to record saves on each to force overtime.

The Warriors took advantage of a mistouch by the Dolphins on a throw-in to score the game-winner 2:30 into the first overtime period. With the ball loose, Jorgi Adee sent the ball up field. Sarah Boucher quickly touched the ball into space, where Cogliano collected it and carried it into the top of the penalty box before firing a shot at the net. It hit off the charging goalkeeper's leg 14 yards in front of the goal and ricocheted backwards and into the middle of the net for her second goal of the year.

Junior goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida) took the loss between the pipes after recording zero saves. Fulton registered 11 saves, including seven in the second half, to earn her second win of the year. Le Moyne recorded an 18-9 advantage in shots, including 10-3 in the second half, taking eight of the game's 10 corner kicks.

Le Moyne (4-9, 3-7 NE10) is back in action on Tuesday at Saint Michael's College at 3:00 p.m.
