Colchester, Vt. – Freshman midfielder
Elizabeth Glynn (Pittsford, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) scored her first two collegiate goals to lead the Le Moyne College women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Duffy Field.
Following four errant Le Moyne shots over the opening 10 minutes of the game, Glynn struck for the game's first goal. Senior midfielder
Brielle Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/Mansfield) sent a long cross from the left side into the goal box, where Flynn tipped the ball inside the near left post at the 10:17 mark for her first career goal.
After each goalkeeper made a save over the next five minutes, the Dolphins took a 2-0 lead. From the left sideline again, senior midfielder
Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) served a pass into the penalty box, where Glynn collected the ball and fired a shot into the right side of the net at the 19:09 mark.
The teams went into halftime with the Dolphins still leading 2-0 after each goalkeeper was forced to make four saves over the final 25 minutes of the half.
The Purple Knights cut Le Moyne's lead in half just over eight minutes into the second half. Taryn Manna carried the ball to the top of the box before sending a short pass to Greta Ricigliano, who fired a shot into the left side of the net at the 53:16 mark for her second goal of the campaign.
Le Moyne regained its two-goal lead with just under 20 minutes remaining in the game. After taking a pass from Colegrove at the top of the box, junior midfielder
Kelsi Fredericks (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/SUNY Oswego) ripped a shot that hit the bottom of the crossbar and bounced down inside the goal line for her second goal of the season. With the assist, Colegrove moved into a tie with 2016 Gold Wave Hall of Fame inductee Gabrielle Curinga '94 for the second-most assists in the program's history with her 21st.
The Purple Knights were unable to put a shot on goal over the final 19 minutes of the game.
Junior goalkeeper
Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida) recorded five first-half saves to earn her 14th win as a Dolphin between the pipes. Megan LeCours took the loss after yielding three goals and making six saves in 77:52 of action. Le Moyne registered a 28-15 advantage in shots, including 15-8 in the first half, while posting a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (5-9, 4-7 NE10) returns home to host Bentley University on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Prior to the opening kick, the seven-member senior class will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
