MEN’S SOCCER EXTENDS UNBEATEN STREAK TO SIX WITH 3-1 WIN AT SAINT MICHAEL’S

Colchester, Vt. – First-year graduate student forward Marek Weber (Fulda, Germany/Sportgymnasium Jena/Goethe-University Frankfurt) scored the game's first goal and assisted on the game-winner to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Saint Michael's College on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Duffy Field.

The Dolphins opened the game's scoring just 87 seconds into the contest. Off an unsuccessful clear attempt by the Purple Knights, junior midfielder Sam Daniel (Bonnyrigg, Scotland/Lasswade/University of Mobile) collected the ball and sent a pass to a wide open Weber, who fired a shot into the left corner of the net for his 16th goal of the season, which is tied for the third-most in the country. The 16 goals are the fifth-most in a season by a Dolphin and the most since 2009.

Saint Michael's evened the score at one apiece just over 12 minutes into the game. Similar to Le Moyne's goal, an unsuccessful clear attempt was controlled by Jake Bannon, who sent a pass to the left side of the box, where Andres Rivas one-timed a shot into the lower left corner of the net for his third tally of the season.

Each team registered three shots over the final 32 minutes of the half, with Le Moyne putting a pair on target, but neither team was able to break the tie before halftime.

The Dolphins regained their lead at the 50:25 mark following a free kick. After the free kick was knocked away, Weber slipped a pass from inside the penalty box to freshman back Patrick Strauss (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Ignatius), who placed a shot into the left side of the goal for his first collegiate marker. The assist increased Weber's point total to 34, which is the sixth-most in a season by a Dolphin in the program's history.

Following four shots, the last of which was saved by goalkeeper Gabriel Pineda, Le Moyne extended its lead to two. After taking a pass from Weber, freshman midfielder Joe Falcone (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) made a move around a defender and drilled a shot from the right side of the box into the left corner at the 68:59 mark for his first collegiate tally.

The Purple Knights were unable to get off another shot in an attempt to come back before the final whistle.

Senior goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) earned the win between the pipes despite not making a save. Pineda registered four saves (against three goals) in 79:17 of action. Le Moyne recorded a 14-6 advantage in shots, including 8-2 in the second half, while posting a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (11-2-2, 7-2-2 NE10), which is undefeated in its last six games (5-0-1), closes out its home schedule on Tuesday against 14th-ranked Adelphi University at 3:00 p.m.
