WOMEN’S SOCCER SCORES TWICE IN EACH HALF IN 4-1 WIN OVER AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore midfielder Claire Stackel (Watertown, N.Y./Copenhagen) scored a pair of goals to lead the Le Moyne College women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins opened the game's scoring just 7:15 into the contest. After senior forward Brielle Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/Mansfield) had a shot blocked by a defender, Stackel beat the goalkeeper to the loose ball at the right corner of the goal box and sent a shot into the lower left corner of the net for her third tally of the season.

American International evened the score at one apiece in the 33rd minute. From 20 yards out on the left side of the field, Federica Frew sent a pass towards the goal box. Taylor Kue raced towards the goal and was able to slightly head the ball around the goalkeeper at the 32:22 mark for her second goal of the year.

Le Moyne regained the lead off an AIC misplay in the 42nd minute. Off an errant pass by an AIC defender, senior forward Adela Racic (Utica, N.Y./Thomas R. Proctor/Bryant & Stratton) stole the ball near midfield and carried the ball past a defender before firing a shot from 19 yards out over the goalkeeper and inside the near right post for her first marker in 25 career games as a Dolphin.

After each team put two shots on goal over the first 30 minutes of the second half, the Dolphins extended their lead to 3-1 in the 76th minute. Freshman midfielder Maddison Vine (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Lisbon) carried the ball down the right side before crossing the ball into the penalty box. After sophomore midfielder Jada Sargeant (Camillus, N.Y./Marcellus/Buffalo State) made a spinning pass to continue the ball through the box, senior midfielder Grace Powers (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) sent a shot into the back of the net from eight yards out for her first career goal.

The Dolphins finished off the game's scoring in the 82nd minute. After receiving a pass from Sargeant, Stackel blasted a shot inside the left post from 25 yards out.

Junior goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida) registered three saves, including two in the second half, to earn her fourth victory of the season. Mikayla Demanche posted two second-half saves in the loss for the Yellow Jackets. Le Moyne recorded a 13-10 advantage in shots, while each team tallied four corner kicks.

Le Moyne (4-6, 3-4 NE10), which won at home for the first time this season, returns to action on Saturday at Saint Anselm College at 11:00 a.m.
