THIRD-RANKED BELLARMINE USES HOT START TO WIN 49TH STRAIGHT HOME GAME, 79-59, OVER 20TH-RANKED MEN’S BASKETBALL

Louisville, Ky. – All-American Adam Eberhard registered a double-double to lead third-ranked Bellarmine University to a 79-59 victory over the 20th-ranked Le Moyne College men's basketball team in non-conference action on Monday night at Knights Hall.

The win marked the 49th in a row for Bellarmine at Knights Hall. The streak is the longest in collegiate men's basketball across all three divisions. The Knights last lost at home on December 13, 2014, a 101-96 overtime loss to eventual national champion Florida Southern College.

Sophomore forward Tom Brown (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) led the Dolphins with 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

Eberhard, a DII Bulletin honorable mention All-America selection last year, registered 16 points, including 11 in the first half, and 10 rebounds in 21 foul-plagued minutes. Brent Bach led all scorers in the contest with 17 points, while adding a game-high five assists. Ben Weyer tallied 14 points and six rebounds, while Alex Cook came off the bench to score 10 points in his season debut.

The Knights, who advanced to the national semifinal last year, scored the game's first 10 points and 22 of the first 24 over the initial 6:49. The Knights hit six three-pointers in the 22-2 jaunt, including two each by Eberhard and Bach.

Following five Le Moyne points around a lay-up by Jarek Coles, the Knights rattled off 10 straight points to take their largest lead of the game, 34-7, with 8:27 left in the first half. Bach made a lay-up, Weyer drained a three-pointer, Eberhard had a conventional three-point play and Cook capped the streak with an alley-oop dunk.

Le Moyne responded with a 23-5 run over 6:39 to get back within single digits with 1:27 left in the half. Senior guard Tanner Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland/Bridgton Academy) led the run with eight points, including a pair of three-pointers, while Brown added five points and four other Dolphins combined for 10 points.

Cook made two free throws and Weyer connected on his third three-pointer of the half to push Bellarmine's lead back to 14 before senior guard Russell Sangster (Rockville, Md./Bullis School) completed the half's scoring with a lay-up at the buzzer to get the Dolphins within 44-32 at halftime.

The Dolphins opened the scoring in the second half with two free throws by senior forward Robert Jones III (Mansfield, Ohio/Mansfield/Northeastern College/Idaho State) to get within 10, but the Knights answered with a 10-3 run to extend their lead back to 17 with 16:06 remaining. Bach had the first five points before Eberhard had the last five.

After the teams traded three-point possessions over the next 3:26, which resulted in the Dolphins getting with 60-46 with 12:40 left, the Knights put the Dolphins away with an 11-2 run over 4:02. Bach and Cook each had four points in the span before Parker Chitty buried a three-pointer.

Bellarmine's lead bounced between 20 and 24 points over the final eight minutes of the game.

Le Moyne (9-3), which played against a team from the Great Lakes Valley Conference for the first time in the program's history, returns to the hardwood on Saturday, December 30 at 4:00 p.m. at 2017 national runner-up Fairmont State.
