MEN’S BASKETBALL CRUISES TO 74-40 VICTORY OVER PACE

Pleasantville, N.Y. – Senior forward Stan Buczek (Port Jervis, N.Y./Burke Catholic) recorded a double-double to lead the Le Moyne College men's basketball team to a 74-40 victory over Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday night at the Goldstein Fitness Center.

Buczek registered 13 points and a career-best 13 rebounds to post his fourth career double-double, while adding three steals. Junior guard Russell Sangster (Rockville, Md./Bullis School) tallied a game-best 15 points, nine of which came in the first half. Sophomore guard C.J. Asuncion-Byrd (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich/St. Thomas More/Gannon) recorded nine of his 14 points in the second half. The 40 points allowed are tied for the eighth-fewest in the program's 69-season history and are the fewest since also allowing 40 to Franklin Pierce in a 46-40 win on January 16, 2007.

Ryan Peterson and Christian White each had nine points in the loss for the Setters, while Peterson added six rebounds and White dished out four assists.

After White hit a three-pointer to get the Setters within 10-8 with 14:35 left in the first half, the Dolphins rattled off 10 straight points to take control of the game. Junior guards Anthony Richards (New Castle, Pa./New Castle/West Virginia Wesleyan) and Tanner Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland/Bridgton Academy) buried three-pointers, junior forward Daniel Kaigler (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden/Gannon) made a lay-up and then Hyland converted two free throws for a 20-8 lead.

Following a free throw by Vinny Dalessandro to get Pace within 24-13 with 6:43 left, the Dolphins tallied 12 of the last 16 points of the half to take a 36-17 lead into halftime. Sangster had five of the points, Kaigler had a dunk, Richards drained a three-pointer and Buczek capped the half with a tip-in as time expired.

The Dolphins opened the second half with 10 of the first 12 points. Asuncion-Byrd had four of the points, while three other Dolphins each had two points.

Pace countered with 12 of the next 15 points to get back within 18, 49-31, with 9:58 to play. Peterson accounted for five of the points, while Peyton Wejnert started the streak with a conventional three-point play.

After Ray Montilus made a free throw to make the score 54-34 with 8:06 left, the Dolphins tallied 20 of the game's last 26 points. Buczek (6) and Sangster (5) teamed for the first 11 points, while four Dolphins accounted for the final nine points as all 10 Dolphins on the roster scored for the second straight game.

Le Moyne (18-5, 13-4 NE10), which has won 18 of its first 23 games for the first time since the 1997-98 season, returns to the hardwood for its final road game of the season next Wednesday at Adelphi University at 7:30 p.m.
