SECOND-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE SUFFERS 9-5 LOSS AT FIFTH-RANKED ADELPHI

Garden City, N.Y. – Fifth-ranked Adelphi University scored the first five goals of the game en route to a 9-5 win over the second-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Motamed Field.

The four-goal loss is Le Moyne's first loss in the regular season by more than two goals since an 11-7 setback at then-C.W. Post (now LIU Post) on March 30, 2002.

Adelphi started its opening run just 1:14 into the game as Ian Kirby finished off a feed from Chris Racalbuto. Just over two minutes later, Nicholas Racalbuto tallied his 28th goal of the year after collecting a pass from Kirby. Shane Deboer put the Panthers up by three and forced a Le Moyne timeout with an unassisted goal with 10:48 left off a drive from the top of the box. Chris Lopez finished off the scoring in the first quarter with 1:25 left after taking a pass from Chris Racalbuto.

The Panthers started the scoring in the second quarter 1:36 into period as Michael Osmundsen found the back of the net with 10 seconds left in a time-on situation.

Le Moyne broke through with its first goal at the 11:29 mark as sophomore midfielder Dan Entenmann (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) recorded his 11th goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Josh Slowinski (Williamsville, N.Y./Clarence) pulled the Dolphins within 5-2 with 6:15 left in the half with a goal off a drive down the right alley.

The Dolphins had a pair of shots on goal over the final four minutes of the half, but both were saved as Adelphi took a 5-2 lead into the intermission.

Adelphi regained its four-goal lead just under two minutes into the third quarter as Gordon Purdie, Jr. scored from the left edge of the crease off a pass from Osmundsen.

Le Moyne got back within three with 4:36 remaining in the quarter as senior defensive midfielder Ryan Desmond (Fairfield, Conn./Ludlowe) scored from the left edge of the crease after his defender tripped over the back of the goal.

Deboer pushed Adelphi's lead back to four with an unassisted goal with 3:15 to go in the third.

Entenmann opened the scoring in the fourth quarter with an unassisted tally to get Le Moyne within three, but that's as close as the Dolphins would get.

Purdie, Jr. pushed the margin back to four off a pass from Nicolas Racalbuto with 9:41 remaining and Deboer extended the margin to five with 7:28 left with an unassisted goal.

After an Adelphi shot was blocked, Entenmann scooped up the loose ball and raced up field. After getting into the box, he fed senior midfielder Alex O'Brien (Hanson, Mass./Boston College High) for his seventh goal of the season with 3:16 remaining.

The Dolphins put three shots on goal over the next two minutes, but were unable to score again.

Junior goalkeeper Jack Sweeney (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) suffered his second loss of the season after allowing seven goals over 45 minutes between the pipes, while making eight saves. Brendan McDougal recorded 12 saves, including five in the fourth quarter, in the victory for the Panthers.

Le Moyne (11-2, 8-2 NE10), which has lost to the Panthers in the regular season for the third time in five years and for the fourth time overall in the last five seasons, closes out the regular season on Saturday against Bentley University at 2:00 p.m. Prior to the opening faceoff, the seven members of the senior class in their final season of eligibility will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
