25TH-RANKED MEN’S SOCCER EDGED BY FRANKLIN PIERCE IN DOUBLE OVERTIME, 1-0

Syracuse, N.Y. – Jacob Maddox knocked in a rebound 1:03 into the second overtime period to give Franklin Pierce University a 1-0 double-overtime victory over the 25th-ranked Le Moyne College men's soccer team in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams on Tuesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins, who earlier in the day entered the United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) national rankings for the first time since being ranked first on September 7, 2010, fall to 3-1 on season, while the Ravens improve to 3-0.

In the first half, each team put one shot on target, but each was easily saved by the goalkeeper.

Franklin Pierce put three of its five shots in the second half on goal, but senior goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) was able to corral each of the three. The Dolphins recorded seven shots in the stanza, but four were off target and three were blocked by defenders before they could get near the goal.

Each team had a shot go high in the first overtime period, necessitating the second extra session.

Just over one minute into the period, Noam Kolakofsky went in 1-on-1 with Beaury and fired a shot at the net, but Beaury was able to knock the ball into the air. After a Le Moyne defender cleared the ball away from the goal, Maddox sent the rebound from the left side of the goal box under the crossbar for his first career goal.

Beaury, who was named the NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week, finished the game with five saves between the pipes, while allowing a goal in the run of play for the first time this season. Jadel Pool-Lewis made one save to earn his third win of the year. Le Moyne posed a 13-12 edge in shots, while Franklin Pierce had an 8-4 advantage in shots.

Le Moyne (3-1, 0-1 NE10), which falls to 6-7 at home against the Ravens, returns to action on Saturday at 15th-ranked Southern New Hampshire University at 1:00 p.m.
