FRANKLIN PIERCE EDGES WOMEN’S SOCCER, 1-0

Syracuse, N.Y. – Gabi Pereira scored midway through the second half to lead Franklin Pierce University to a 1-0 victory over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

In the scoreless first half, the Dolphins registered an 8-6 advantage in shots. Three of Le Moyne's eight shots were on target, while only one of Franklin Pierce's six shots was on target.

The Dolphins had the first two scoring opportunities of the second half, but each of the shots was saved by Ravens goalkeeper Casey Cook.

Franklin Pierce broke through at the 71:24 mark with the only goal it would need. Off a back pass by Bruna Tavares from 12 yards in front of the net, Pereira blasted a shot from the top left side of the penalty box into the left side of the net for her third goal of the season.

The Dolphins had two shots in the final minute of play, but the first was blocked and the second was saved with 29 seconds remaining.

Junior goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga K/West Florida) made one save in the first half in the setback. Cook finished the contest with six saves to record her second win of the campaign. The Dolphins posted a 12-11 edge in shots and a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (1-3, 0-2 NE10), which fell to the Ravens, 1-0, for the second straight year, returns to action on Saturday at Stonehill College at 12:00 p.m.
